My An commune is surrounded by Ham Luong River and Bang Cung River, convenient for waterway and road trade. Thanks to that, the craft village here was formed, developed and increasingly expanded in scale - we mean the broom making craft village. Production activities at Ms. Huynh Thi Luyen Em's facility The broom binding craft village was formed a long time ago, around the 1970s. To bundle a broom, the worker must go through many elaborate stages to create the finished product. The broom is made from locally available materials such as coconut leaf stalks and nipa palm leaf stalks. Initially, people made products to meet household demand. Then, they realized that coconut brooms here were convenient to use, people in the surrounding areas bought them as living tools. Time flies, coconut brooms are produced in more quantity, types and designs. From An Hoa hamlet, the broom binding profession spreads out to An Hoa B and An Binh hamlets. The broom binding craft village was formed a long time ago, around the 1970s. To bundle a broom, the worker must go through many elaborate stages to create the finished product. The broom is made from locally available materials such as coconut leaf stalks and nipa palm leaf stalks. Initially, people made products to meet household demand. Then, they realized that coconut brooms here were convenient to use, people in the surrounding areas bought them as living tools. Time flies, coconut brooms are produced in more quantity, types and designs. From An Hoa hamlet, the broom binding profession spreads out to An Hoa B and An Binh hamlets. In 2011, My An broom making village was recognized as the 18th handicraft village in Ben Tre province. In 2012, continued to be recognized as a provincial-level rural industrial product. In 2014, the My An broom bundle production cooperative group was set up in An Hoa hamlet consisting of 10 members with nearly 100 employees, producing on average more than 3,000 products per day and becoming a supplier for inside and outside provincial markets such as Thai Binh and Dong Nai, especially exported to India and Cambodia. In 2015, the National Office of Intellectual Property granted a protection certificate establishing the rights to the collective trademark "My An Broom" to the My An Broom Production Cooperative Group. Recently, the craft village has about 400 households participating in production, of which 42 are large-scale producers, the rest are small-scale producers like processing at home. With the potential of human resources, material resources and utility of brooms, My An broom making village will have many opportunities for development in the future and is one of the suitable craft villages for investors who want to trying in this new field.
