Dai Dien commune in Thanh Phu district (Ben Tre province) is the departure place of the heroic Battalion 307, which was featured in the famous song "Three and Seventh Battalion" by musician Nguyen Huu Tri, popularized by Nguyen Binh. More than half a century ago, Dai Dien was a large, very rich land as its name suggests, but most of the land was concentrated in the hands of notoriously wealthy landowners in Ben Tre at that time such as the Liem District Tri and the Council. On May 1, 1948, at Dong Thap Muoi base, Battalion 307 was established consisting of forces from Region 8 and a part of the 99th Ben Tre Regiment. The battalion held a departure ceremony on July 5, 1948 at Giong Luong base, Dai Dien commune, Thanh Phu district, Ben Tre province; Initially named "Mobile Coalition Battalion", later shortened to Battalion 307.
