Vo Truong Toan's tomb relic is a national relic located in Bao Thanh commune, Ba Tri district and recognized by decision No. 95-1998-QD/BVHTT dated on January 24, 1998 of the Ministry of Culture and Information. Mr. Vo Truong Toan was a great Confucian, a talented and eminent teacher in Southern Vietnam in the 18th century. He was a person who did not desire fame and fortune, had a strong and pure moral character. He lived in seclusion, not serving as an official for Tay Son or Lord Nguyen. On June 9, the Year of the Rat ( July 27, 1792), Mr. Vo Truong Toan died in Hoa Hung village, Binh Duong district, Gia Dinh province and was buried here. Hearing the news of his death, Lord Nguyen felt sorry for him and gave him the title (tp.t: Gia Dinh morality-followed officer and Royal General), and established a sacred tomb and church where people can come to tribute . Vo Truong Toan's tomb relic is a national relic located in Bao Thanh commune, Ba Tri district and recognized by decision No. 95-1998-QD/BVHTT dated on January 24, 1998 of the Ministry of Culture and Information.

Mr. Vo Truong Toan was a great Confucian, a talented and eminent teacher in Southern Vietnam in the 18th century. He was a person who did not desire fame and fortune, had a strong and pure moral character. He lived in seclusion, not serving as an official for Tay Son or Lord Nguyen. On June 9, the Year of the Rat ( July 27, 1792), Mr. Vo Truong Toan died in Hoa Hung village, Binh Duong district, Gia Dinh province and was buried here. Hearing the news of his death, Lord Nguyen felt sorry for him and gave him the title (tp.t: Gia Dinh morality-followed officer and Royal General), and established a sacred tomb and church where people can come to tribute . In 1866, the Governor of Phan Thanh Gian discussed with the Director of Vinh Long at that time named Nguyen Thong to build a tablet to worship Uncle Vo Truong Toan at Van Thanh Temple in Vinh Long. When the three eastern provinces of South Vietnam fell into the hands of the French colonialists, Phan Thanh Gian did not want the bones of famous people to lie in the land invaded by the enemy, so he and the Provincial education officer of Vinh Long province - Nguyen Thong, Defense Command Lieutenant Governor of An Giang province -Pham Huu Chanh discussed the reburial of Mr. Vo Truong Toan's remains. On October 28, the 18th year of Tu Duc's reign, his wife and children were brought to Bao Thanh village (now known as Bao Thanh commune, Ba Tri district, Ben Tre province).

His tomb was built in the Northeast direction and was surrounded by many types of trees such as: oil, phoenix, poinciana... creating an overall harmony with nature. The tomb's foundation was built with a length of 30m and a width of 25m, covered with cement and surrounded by a fence made of brick walls for protection. The tomb was renovated many times. In 1995, Vo Truong Toan school in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City supported fund along with the provincial budget to build and upgrade the grave site. Till 1997, a church was built within the relic grounds.

In 2012, the relic was greatly restored with the following items: The temple was newly built with two floors of roof, four rows of wooden pillars and a tiled roof; The grave site of Mr. Vo Truong Toan, his wife and children renovated the courtyard in front of the Temple. On 9th June in lunar month every year, people in the area come to express their respects to him.
Celebrating the 230th anniversary of the death of Teacher Vo Truong Toan

On the occasion of the 230th anniversary of the death of Teacher Vo Truong Toan (June 9, 1792 - June 9, 2022 by the lunar calendar), to commemorate the noble example, merit of expanding education and patriotism of the Teacher Vo Truong Toan thereby promotes the tradition of studiousness and the spirit of "Educators must be esteemed" for next generation ,

Ben Tre Museum cooperated with the People's Committee of Bao Thanh commune, Ba Tri district, Ben Tre province to organize the Incense Offering Ceremony on the morning of July 7, 2022 ie 09 June of the Year of the Tiger at the National Tomb and the memorial site Vo Truong Toan .

Vo Truong Toan is from Binh Duong district, Tan Binh district, Gia Dinh province (the year of birth and his origin are unknown, only known that he is a well-educated , highly talented and well-versed person in ancient times...).

During the Tay Son - Nguyen Anh war, he stayed hidden in the countryside, opened a teaching school, refused all grants and did not participate in politics. Among the hundreds of students he trained, there were famous people such as Ngo Tung Chau - loyal servant, founder of the Nguyen Dynasty comprises Trinh Hoai Duc, Le Quang Dinh, Ngo Nhan Tinh - people call them "Gia Dinh Tam Gia" due to their excellent poetic and martial arts talents; are Pham Ngoc Uan and Le Ba Pham - good students; Mr. Chieu and Mr. Truc - two recluses of noble virtue... Southern Confucian scholars after Vo Truong Toan, although they were not trained by him, still considered him a teacher, like Phan Thanh Gian - the first doctor of Cochinchina. , Nguyen Thong - the leading poet and teacher of Cochinchina, like Nguyen Dinh Chieu - physician, teacher, poet of the people of Luc Cochinchina province...
Vo Truong Toan died on 09 June of the Year of the Rat, i.e. July 27, 1792. To commemorate his teacher's merits, his former student gave him a pair of tureens:
"When alive, teaching many people from zero to hero.
Althought childless, but likely having thousands;
when dead, the reputation left in the world
Although passed away, it's likely stay in that world forever."
(Translation: While living, he taught everyone and despite of having no children, it seemed to be like having ones. When he died, your reputation still remained ).

When three eastern provinces fell into the hands of the French invaders, some intellectuals in Gia Dinh (including Phan Thanh Gian, Nguyen Thong, Pham Huu Chanh, Truong Gia Hoi) did not want Mr. Vo Truong Toan to stay in the temporarily occupied area, has moving the grave to Bao Thanh village (now in Bao Thanh commune, Ba Tri district).

The works of Uncle Vo Truong Toan were almost lost... now only one poem remains, the 24-verse poem Hoai Co Phu. The author of the poem wanted to deposit his thoughts and ideas in it about life, people and what he witnessed during a turbulent period of history.
