Canoing and cycling to explore Tam Hiep island

(SGTT) – Rowing a rowing boat in the nipa palm canal, cycling under the green longan garden, exploring the ginseng leaf garden or relaxing at a homestay on the banks of the Tien River... are experiences that many tourists love when returning to Tam Hiep Island.

Located in the middle of the Tien River, Tam Hiep is an island commune in Binh Dai district, Ben Tre province, with an area of about 1,300 hectares, with more than 1,000 households. Local people often call this place as Con Tau (Ship), because from a distance it looks like a ship reaching out to the sea.

Tam Hiep Island is about 12km from Ben Tre city center, to explore this island, visitors can go to the center of Long Dinh commune or Phu Thuan commune, then go to Long Dinh ferry wharf, or Phu Thuan ferry wharf – Tam Hiep.

People on Tam Hiep Island mainly grow longan and green-skinned grapefruit on fertile alluvial land, as well as raise cattle, poultry and raise fish in cages and catfish. Since mid-2019, a number of farming households here have welcomed international visitors to visit, immerse in nature, breathe fresh air and stay at people's houses on the island.

Accordingly, on this island, visitors will experience rowing canoes in nipa palm canals, cycling to visit longan gardens, green grapefruit gardens, ginseng leaf gardens, experience weaving... and especially enjoy the Specialties such as shrimp boiled in coconut water, dishes prepared with coconut ingredients.

One of the tourist highlights on Tam Hiep island is Ut Trinh Homestay, which stands out with its airy space, ancient Southern house-style architecture, and many types of clean fruits and vegetables planted around it to serve tourists. Ut Trinh Homestay is a destination chosen by many international tourists as a place to stay and experience during their journey to explore Tam Hiep Island.

Sharing with Saigon Tiep Thi Press, Mr. Vo Thanh Son, Director of Ben Tre Tourism Promotion Information Center, said that since the Covid-19 epidemic, more and more international visitors have come to Tam Hiep Island, due to the epidemic. Tourism services on the island basically meet tourist needs. Peace, fresh air and many experiences associated with the river... are the factors that help Tam Hiep Island attract tourists, especially foreigners.

Mr. Vo Chi Kha, Head of Operations of Binh Minh Phuong Nam Tourism Company, commented that, with a close distance to Ho Chi Minh City, Tam Hiep Island is an ideal destination for tourists to explore within a period of 1-2 days. “The difference of Tam Hiep Island is the rich fruit gardens. The island is quite small but can "integrate" many experiences for tourists such as cycling, canoeing through nipa palm canals, visiting the green grass jelly garden or relaxing at a homestay," Mr. Kha said.

Binh Dai is one of three coastal districts of Ben Tre province, located on An Hoa island. Binh Dai owns a mangrove ecosystem such as cork, mangrove, casuarina... and a typical coastal landscape with watermelon fields, salt fields, shrimp farms, rich water and seafood resources... Comng to Binh Dai, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the fresh, cool atmosphere typical of the "coconut land". Besides, the experience of swimming in the sea, immersing yourself in the daily life of the people... is also something that attracts tourists when coming to Binh Dai.
