The story of the origin of Cai Mon durian variety

When we mention durian, we immediately think of a fruit with rough skin and many sharp thorns on the outside, but the flesh inside is extremely delicious with a sweet, fatty, fragrant and seductive taste. However, for those who do not like durian, the taste of this fruit is a bit unpleasant.

For a long time, Vinh Thanh commune, Cho Lach district of Ben Tre province has been known nationwide as the Cai Mon seedling and ornamental flower craft village. However, this place is also famous for Cai Mon durian specialty that has been around for more than 100 years.

Regarding the origin of this durian variety, no one here knows exactly. However, there is a story about the origin of Cai Mon durian that is still often circulated to this day. Around 1910, in this locality, there was a Confucian Master named Nguyen Duy Luu (1857 - 1947), who while teaching in a foreign country (Cambodia), accidentally brought a durian tree to plant. At that time, Mr. Nguyen Duy Luu named this durian variety the tree that tastes of cow's milk because of its sweet and fatty taste.

Since then, the reputation of Cai Mon durian has become more and more famous because the durian here is very special with many advantages such as: thin skin, sparse spines, flat seeds, thick rice with attractive golden color and when eaten, it is delicious. The sweet, fatty taste seems to melt right in the mouth.

However, due to the application of increasingly modern science and technology, today Cai Mon durian will bear fruit all year round. A Cai Mon durian fruit usually weighs from 1 to 3 kg, each tree can yield up to hundreds of kilograms per harvest. In particular, Cai Mon durian is grown using the grafting method, so it always maintains its high quality and delicious taste until today. In addition, Cai Mon durian also often has a high price, on average from 40,000 VND to 70,000 VND per kg and Cai Mon durian always has a good source of consumption not only domestically but also exported to foreign countries thanks to trade. brand and quality. One thing to note is that Cho Lach - Cai Mon is a place for producing seedlings - ornamental flowers and orchards; Therefore, seedlings are sold all over the country and neighboring countries. Therefore, Cai Mon durians are not the same everywhere as durians in Cho Lach due to the influence of the soil of this land.
