Bringing the entire coconut land to the Ho Chi Minh City Theater to sing Phu Le colors and dance with shadow balls

Coming to the coconut cultural space in Ho Chi Minh City, people can listen to Sac Bua singing - a type of folk performance of Ben Tre people and admire a set of coconut musical instruments.

On the evening of January 6, in front of the City Theater (Ho Chi Minh City) an art program took place with the theme of  Ben Tre's hospitality and love.

Attending the music night were Mr. Tran Ngoc Tam - Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Be Muoi - Vice Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee... and a large number of people. 

This is one of the activities within the framework of a series of events promoting the image of  Ben Tre  and performing the art of  Grace of the Coconut Country - Longing Desire,  taking place on January 6 and 7. 

The activity was organized by the Ben Tre Compatriots Liaison Committee in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ben Tre Businessmen Club in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ben Tre Compatriot Journalists Club in Ho Chi Minh City in coordination with the Performance Organization Center. and Ho Chi Minh City Cinema organized on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of Ben Tre Dong Khoi Day.

The Ben Tre art program  of hospitality and love  is carried out by the Ben Tre Provincial Cultural and Cinema Center, bringing a colorful music space. 

The audience felt like they were taking a tour around the coconut homeland of Ben Tre through the sweet melodies of familiar songs such as:  Ben Tre Standing Posture, Homeland River, I'm a Daughter of Ben Tre, Ben Tre Vitality, Perfume Ben Tre love ... and a new song composed for this activity called  Ben Tre Desire

The audience can also enjoy the specialty of the Southern region, amateur music through the Vong Co song  Ben Tre Smile

Another type of folk performance art performed on the stage in front of the City Theater is shadow dance. 

In particular, the audience can enjoy Phu Le singing. 

This is one of six types of folk performances of Ben Tre people, recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2017.  Phu Le Sac Bo singing  usually only takes place during the Lunar New Year.

Admire the coconut musical instrument set 

On the same afternoon, the organizing committee opened the coconut cultural space on the campus in front of the City Theater. 

The space displays products, fruits, and objects imbued with the culture of the coconut land, promoting the image and people of Ben Tre. 

There are performances of amateur music, instructions on making rice paper, folding coconut leaves... 

In particular, people can admire the set of  coconut musical instruments  made from coconut tree trunks and coconut tree waste products such as: coconut shells, coconut shells, mo nang... by artist Vo Van Ba.

He started making musical instruments from coconuts in 2011. Currently, he has made more than 200 musical instruments made from coconuts including storks, zithers, pliers, concave key guitars... 

At the coconut culture space, he displayed a grand flute made from coconut wood over 80 years old. This instrument is 2.65m high, 1.03m long and the surface size is 0.63m. 

Artist  Vo Van Ba  ​​told  Tuoi Tre Online  that if these instruments are well preserved (not exposed to water or broken), they can have a lifespan of up to a hundred years, because the instruments have been treated to avoid termites. 

With hundreds of musical instruments and coconut musical instrument sets, he set a Vietnamese record for being the first person to make a musical instrument set from coconut trunks in 2012.

The highlight of the coconut culture space are two winding dragons welcoming the new year Giap Thin 2024, shaped from familiar fruits. 

There are also booths displaying a number of coconut products and specialties from Ben Tre and other localities.
