(TITC) - Chiều 18/8, tại thành phố Đà Nẵng, Sở Văn hóa, Thể thao và Du lịch tỉnh Trà Vinh phối hợp với Hiệp hội Du lịch đồng bằng sông Cửu Long (ĐBSCL) và Sở Du lịch, Sở Văn hóa, Thể thao và Du lịch các tỉnh, thành ĐBSCL tổ chức Hội nghị xúc tiến, quảng bá du lịch ĐBSCL với các tỉnh, thành miền Trung nhằm liên kết, hợp tác phát triển du lịch.

Attending the conference were Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism; Cao Thi Ngoc Lan, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Tourism Association; Tran Chi Cuong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City; Nguyen Quynh Thien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Vinh Province; Tran Viet Phuong, Chairman of the Mekong Delta Tourism Association, along with leaders of local tourism management agencies and tourism businesses from the Central region and the Mekong Delta provinces.

In his speech at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Quynh Thien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Vinh Province, stated that the Mekong Delta is located at the lower reaches of the Mekong River, covering an area of approximately 40,640 square kilometers, accounting for about 12.3% of the country's total area, with a population of over 17 million people. It consists of one city and twelve provinces: An Giang, Bac Lieu, Ben Tre, Ca Mau, Dong Thap, Long An, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, and Can Tho City.

The Mekong Delta is part of the southern key economic region and holds a particularly important strategic position in terms of politics, socio-economics, culture, national defense, security, and foreign affairs of the country. It is also known as the "Southernmost region - The nation's southern frontier," and the southwestern gateway of the country.

The tourism industry in the Mekong Delta, with its unique characteristics, is gradually being invested in and developed, emphasizing ecological environmental protection and the preservation and promotion of indigenous culture. This helps tourists have various experiences and fosters a sense of responsibility towards nature. Ecotourism, leisure tourism, island tourism, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), cultural-historical tourism, spiritual tourism, community-based tourism, and agricultural tourism are the distinctive and attractive products of the Mekong Delta region.
Mr. Tran Chi Cuong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, stated that the Central - Central Highlands and the Mekong Delta are two major tourist markets in the country, each with its unique regional characteristics and attractive, distinctive tourism products that draw both domestic and international tourists. Following the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, restoring tourism activities has become a key focus for provinces and cities nationwide. More than ever, promoting tourism linkages between localities needs to be prioritized and implemented effectively and practically.

"Da Nang hopes that tourism management agencies and service and tourism businesses in the Central region and the Mekong Delta will contribute ideas, propose cooperation, share experiences and policies to develop new, diverse, and unique tourism products, as well as jointly promote tourism development and exchange visitors between the two regions. Da Nang is committed to always supporting and creating favorable conditions for tourism businesses to connect, conduct business, and cooperate in economic and tourism development,"  Mr. Tran Chi Cuong emphasized.

Mr. Tran Viet Phuong, representing the Mekong Delta Tourism Association, shared that although the Mekong Delta has many potential advantages for development, its tourism industry has not yet fully realized this potential. The number of tourists and tourism revenue remain modest compared to other provinces, cities, and regions across the country. The promotion and advertising efforts for tourism still have limitations. Therefore, the provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta place great emphasis on tourism promotion and connection with other regions, particularly the tourism market in the Central region, to foster tourism development.

Currently, there are two airlines, Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet, that offer daily flights from Can Tho to Da Nang, bringing the Mekong Delta closer to the provinces and cities in the Central region. This creates favorable conditions for the Mekong Delta to connect its tourism market with the Central region.
"The Mekong Delta provinces and cities introduced the image of the country, people, destinations, tourism services, and unique tourism products of the Mekong Delta region, with the desire to connect with travel businesses in the Central provinces and cities. Through this conference, the Central provinces and cities and the Mekong Delta provinces and cities will come closer together; they will link and cooperate in tourism promotion and advertising; connect to organize inter-regional tourism promotion activities and events; and have preferential policies to stimulate tourism between the Mekong Delta and the Central provinces and cities to attract tourists," Mr. Tran Viet Phuong said .

Sharing at the conference, leaders from the Departments of Tourism and the Departments of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the Central provinces and cities stated that the Mekong Delta has very unique and attractive tourism products for tourists from the Central provinces. However, the promotion and development of services between the two regions are still very limited. Therefore, in the near future, the two regions need to strengthen cooperation in promoting tourism products; each province and city in the Mekong Delta should be associated with an event to increase connectivity and exchange visitors.

According to business representatives, despite efforts by Mekong Delta provinces to create distinctive tourism products, there is still overlap due to similarities in weather, climate, soil conditions, and even culture. Therefore, to develop unique tourism products for each locality, it is necessary to consider regional linkages in order to build tourism products for both the region and sub-regions. This approach will help each locality conduct research and choose to focus on creating tourism products that are closely associated with its unique "cultural value".
