On May 19, 2023, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ben Tre to organize a workshop to collect comments on the plan to implement the pilot model "Development Model". rural tourism in the direction of green tourism associated with improving the role of community organization and management in Tan My commune, Ba Tri district, Ben Tre province", taking place at the tourist destination Hai Van Farm - Vam Bird Sanctuary Lake.

Overview of the Workshop to collect comments on the pilot model implementation plan

According to Decision No. 1528/QĐ-BNN-VPĐP dated April 14, 2023, by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, approving the list of pilot models under the One Commune One Product Program for the period 2021-2025 (Phase 2), there are 18 models from 18 provinces. Among them, Bến Tre has the "Model for developing rural tourism towards green tourism associated with enhancing the role of community organization and management in Tan My Commune, Ba Tri District, Ben Tre Province."

The draft plan for implementing the pilot model includes the following key contents: 1. Continued Promotion and Awareness: Increasing awareness and mindset regarding the development of rural tourism towards green tourism, focusing on enhancing the role of community organization and management. 2. Training and Capacity Building: Regularly organizing training sessions, workshops, and refresher courses to update tourism knowledge and skills for the workforce and community members. This aims to improve service skills, professional expertise, organizational and management capabilities, and the ability to develop tourism products for local communities and beneficiaries. 3. Infrastructure Development: Developing infrastructure and technical facilities to support tourism development. 4. Product and Route Development: Developing community tourism products and routes. 5. Linkage, Promotion, and Marketing: Establishing connections and promoting community tourism.

The pilot model will be implemented in Tan My Commune, Ba Tri District, and the buffer zones of neighboring districts such as Binh Dai and Giong Trom from 2023 to 2025. This implementation will involve state management agencies from the provincial to the grassroots level, as well as organizations, individuals, and communities engaged in tourism. Notably, it includes households, cooperative entities, small and medium enterprises, and tourism business establishments.

Tan My is a rural commune in Ba Tri District with potential for developing rural tourism towards green tourism based on three sustainable foundations: Vam Ho Bird Sanctuary, Ba Lai River, and riverside fruit gardens. One key tourist attraction here is the Hai Van Farm - Vam Ho Bird Sanctuary in Tan Qui Hamlet, Tan My Commune, Ba Tri District, which has been recognized as a 4-star OCOP product. This primary tourist destination connects with satellites, including local residents, households, cooperatives in Tan My Commune, and surrounding rural areas, as well as other local tourist spots.

Delegates experienced and explored Vam Ho Forest and Vam Ho Bird Sanctuary.​​​​​​​

At the workshop, delegates had hands-on experiences at the eco-tourism site Hai Van Farm - Vam Ho Bird Sanctuary. They engaged in various activities, such as exploring Vam Ho Forest and Vam Ho Bird Sanctuary, enjoying boat rides on the Ba Lai River, making rice paper, weaving mats, crafting with coconut leaves, and savoring local coconut cuisine. Additionally, delegates contributed valuable feedback and suggestions to refine the draft plan. Key points discussed included identifying the potential of Tan My commune for integration into the model, reviewing the list of activities to ensure effective implementation, maintaining strong connections among stakeholders—government, businesses, and local communities—and developing a model linked to tour and route development.

The workshop served as a foundation for the successful establishment of the pilot model, aiming to create a friendly tourism environment aligned with the rural tourism development program within the framework of the new rural development initiative. The program, "One Commune, One Product," seeks to introduce, promote, and attract both domestic and international tourists. Furthermore, it aims to enhance interactive experiences, allowing visitors to learn about the culture, customs, and daily life of the people in the Coconut Land. This initiative also focuses on building and developing community-based tourism models with direct participation from local residents, contributing to economic and social development, job creation, and improving the quality of life for local communities.
