BDK - Những năm gần đây, Thạnh Phú đã đẩy mạnh khai thác thêm các giá trị về văn hóa, lịch sử, thiên nhiên để làm du lịch. Sau thời gian giãn cách xã hội do tác động của dịch Covid-19, du lịch Thạnh Phú đã đón luồng cơ hội mới.

The eco-tourism site Chín Sông in Bình Thạnh commune, Thạnh Phú district has recently seen infrastructure investment and splendid landscapes.

Exploiting new tourism products

According to Nguyen Van Tuong, Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Thạnh Phú district, tourism in Thạnh Phú has shown significant growth in 2019, achieving 123.65% of the plan with over 500,000 visitors. The total revenue from tourism exceeded 100 billion VND. During the holidays of April 30th and International Labor Day on May 1st, following the relaxation of social distancing measures, the district welcomed nearly 5,000 visitors, predominantly domestic tourists. Despite a substantial decrease compared to 2019 due to the impact of the pandemic, this is still a positive sign, indicating the domestic demand for tourism in Thạnh Phú.

From 2018 to date, research conducted by Van Hien University in collaboration with the People's Committee of Thạnh Phú district has identified suitable resources for tourism besides the sea, including flooded forests, rural landscapes, and cultural-historical relics. The tourist market in Thạnh Phú is primarily domestic. Its strengths lie in coastal tourism, fresh and clean seafood experiences, agricultural tourism featuring specialties like mango gardens and vineyards, and cultural tourism with ancient house relics. These tourism resources, however, have not yet been fully exploited to their potential by the district.

Currently, the district is actively developing new tourism products focusing on eco-tourism and experiential tourism. The People's Committee of the district, in collaboration with Van Hien University (Ho Chi Minh City), is developing a new experiential tourism product called "Nature and Humanity in Thạnh Phú." This product is currently being tested with activities such as visiting the coconut broom-making village in Mỹ An commune, conical hat weaving in Mỹ Hưng commune, visiting the sea-based historical site of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, Ông Nam Hải Tomb, enjoying seafood at Cồn Bửng island, overnight stays at Cồn Bửng, visiting mango gardens in Thạnh Phong, exploring the mangrove forest in the saline zone, Phú Khánh market, coconut cake-making houses, and Huynh Phu ancient house... The product focuses on exploring the distinctive cultural values of the coastal countryside to provide tourists with a complete experience.

Since the beginning of 2020, the district has also opened new tourist destinations to serve visitors, such as the eco-tourism site Chín Sông in Bình Thạnh commune, Vạn Vân eco-tourism in Thạnh Phong commune, and the cultural-sports-tourism complex Cửu Long located in the center of Thạnh Phú town. Recently, the inspection team from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism evaluated the essential infrastructure conditions for accommodation at these locations. The results showed that the infrastructure has been well invested in, ensuring the necessary requirements for accommodating guests as well as aesthetic and convenience factors.

Continuing to attract investment

The tourism products in Thạnh Phú are currently well-aligned with the demands of domestic tourists, presenting a great opportunity for the district's tourism sector to excel in the latter half of 2020. According to Nguyen Van Tuong, efforts are being made by the district's tourism sector to implement stimulus measures and promote tourism in line with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism's campaign "Vietnamese people travel in Vietnam". The goal is to achieve 70% of the tourist visitation target by September 2020.

To further enhance the quality of tourism activities in Thạnh Phú, government tourism management agencies in the district are providing guidance and reinforcing operational practices along the Cồn Bửng coastal area. They are also conducting checks on environmental issues, food safety, and implementing epidemic prevention measures. Additionally, the district plans to open vocational training courses for rural tourism services to improve the quality of the local tourism workforce.

"Currently, Thạnh Phú district continues to invite businesses to invest in tourism infrastructure, tapping into the district's tourism potential and advantages, particularly in eco-tourism, experiential tourism, and resort stays. Furthermore, the district proposes additional investment in transportation infrastructure to better serve tourism," emphasized Nguyen Van Tuong.

Thạnh Phú district is currently preparing a plan for the 2nd Seafood Culture and Tourism Week 2020, scheduled to take place in September 2020 within the district. This event aims to enhance publicity and promote the cultural values and destinations in the district. It will serve as an opportunity to attract investments, establish partnerships, and promote collaborative efforts for tourism development.
