From past to present, the type of amateur folk music is indeed a spiritual and cultural product of the Southwest region ; the original place name was invented to bring into Vietnamese life from Bac Lieu province, the hometown of Cai Luong music pioneer Cao Van Lau who was venerated by Cai Luong amateurs as "Master"; He also was the founder in the 1920s of the 20th century, then many successive predecessors have adapted it until today; This type has lived among Vietnamese people for nearly a hundred years. At the beginning of 2014, the new Southern amateur folk music form officially became an intangible cultural form representing humanity and spreaded out throughout the five continents, no longer within the scope of Vietnam and not considered as a "product of Southwestern region" as it had been used ; On this occasion, Bac Lieu province organizes the first National Southern amateur music festival which will take place from April 20 to 25, 2014.

TIn Ben Tre, this form of cultural art has been preserved for a long time. Currently, the whole province has nearly 1,700 participants with about 100 clubs, groups, and amateur music teams regularly operating at localities, cultural communes which creating a useful playground; Especially tourist attractions in the province all have amateur folk music teams to serve short songs and long songs in the Southern Cai Luong genre. Amateur folk music is a deeply communal art form, a singer, a player, and someone to enjoy and encourage should be included in ; regardless of gender or age, all elderly and children can participate; The amateur music team must meet at least five basic types of instruments such as: Concave key guitar, Kim guitar, Co guitar, Tranh guitar and Bau guitar; But amateur singers sometimes only have a guitar and Kim guitar or a Sen guitar. At Ben Tre's tourist attractions, most foreign tourists cannot hear Vietnamese words, but with the expressions of gestures, happy, sad, and quiet facial expressions of the singers, combined with the sweet melodies.
